With the Changes album cover

The Wind Symphony Project's debut album, With the Changes, is an exploration in contemporary repertoire for the wind symphony through the context of small group jazz performances. Inspired by listening to the heavily jazz influenced works of Kevin Day, Katahj Copley, and Omar Thomas, I thought to myself: this is just a big band with oboes and french horn! With this realization, I arranged their pieces for another type of jazz ensemble. One that is able to thoroughly represent their works while leaving abundant space for extended and exciting improvised moments — the quintet.
